ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Jean Manale was born in New Orleans. She has had an interest in photography from an early age. She asked her parents for a camera for her 9th birthday and she has been clicking away ever since.
Jean spends many hours walking and exploring the streets of New Orleans trying to capture that special moment in time no one else sees or pays attention to and is uniquely New Orleans.
New Orleans' rich traditions such as Mardi Gras, Mardi Gras Indians, Jazz Funerals, Jazz Fest, the historic cemeteries and always the fascinating people of New Orleans are what inspire her photographs.
Jean's collections of photographs are in black & white, color, black & white infra-red as well as hand-colored and Polaroid transfers.
Manale is basically self-taught but has taken various photography classes including classes with Victoria Ryan (local art photographer and teacher), Sandra Russell Clark and Harriet Blum (hand-coloring classes, Tulane and UNO.)
